NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

Since 1981, the second week of April has been designated to honor telecommunications personnel across the country.  This week, April 13th through the 19th we ask that the citizens of Milford join us in celebrating the endless contributions made by the men and women of the Milford Public Safety Communications Center.

 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our telecommunicators are the unseen heroes of public safety, serving as an irreplaceable conduit between our community and emergency responders.

 Their voice in the darkness serves as a lighthouse of hope in our times of need.

DEPUTY CHIEF CARLOS SOUSA RECEIVES PAUL HARRIS AWARD

We would like to congratulate Deputy Chief Carlos Sousa for being awarded the Paul Harris award by the Milford MA Rotary Club. Deputy Chief Sousa is a linchpin for the Milford Police Department and its community. In addition to receiving the prestigious award, Deputy Chief Sousa received citations from State Representative Brian W. Murray and The Milford Select Board for his continued contributions to the town of Milford. It was a pleasure to honor Deputy Chief Sousa with his family and friends.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER CHASING VICTIM WITH A KNIFE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FRIDAY APRIL 11TH 2025

 MILFORD- On Tuesday April 5th, 2025, at approximately 12:36AM, a male party entered the Milford Police Department lobby reporting Vitor Machado Da Silva threatened to “kill him” and chased him with a knife from his residence to MPD Headquarters.  In fear for his life, believing the suspect was still outside, officers checked the area with negative result.

At 12:50AM Milford Police K-9 and Drone Units responded to the area to assist in searching for Machado and the weapon in question.  At 12:57AM, Vitor Machado Da Silva was located in the area of 309 Main St. sitting in the passenger seat of a Blue Toyota Highlander.

In addition to an active warrant for his arrest for previous crimes, Machado was charged with the following.

ARRESTS MADE IN STOLEN VEHICLE CASE

MILFORD- On Wednesday, April 9th, 2025, at 7:23AM, the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received an emergency phone call reporting a stolen vehicle from the Holiday Inn Express, located at 50 Fortune Blvd. in Milford.  The caller relayed to communications personnel that he had started his vehicle to warm it and while heading back into the hotel, noticed two white males acting suspiciously in the area. 

Milford Police Detectives and patrol units conducted a search of the area with negative findings of the reported stolen vehicle. A review of hotel CCTV footage showed the suspects in question entering and stealing the vehicle at 7:17AM.  In checking additional video evidence, Detectives discovered the two suspects were transported to the hotel by a Hopkinton Police Department marked unit prior to the theft.  In communicating with Hopkinton Police, MPD Detectives were able to identify the two males as Anthony Carter, 46, of Wichita, Kansas and Christopher Carter, 40, of Cleveland, North Carolina.  In addition to providing the suspect’s identities, Hopkinton Police advised MPD Detectives that the two were criminally summonsed in their town for driving a vehicle with stolen plates attached, before being courtesy transported to the Milford hotel where the crime occurred.

At 3:00PM, through use of multi-agency, crime-tracking technology, the suspects were apprehended by Westchester County Police while driving the stolen Honda Accord.

Both suspects are charged with the following crimes.

MILFORD MAN CHARGED AFTER $25,000 EQUIPMENT LARCENY

MILFORD- On Monday, March 17, 2025, The Milford Police Department responded to Milton CAT, located at 100 Quarry Dr. for a reported equipment larceny.  Representatives from the company reported an “Engine Roll Over Stand” with an estimated worth of $25,358 had gone missing from their headquarters since last use. 

On Monday, March 31, 2025, Milford Police Detectives in cooperation with Milton CAT concluded that John Denaro, 48, a former Milton CAT employee, had stolen the high value tool.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Milford Police Detectives located and recovered the tool at Denaro’s residence.

MILFORD TEEN ARRESTED ON FIREARMS CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY APRIL 1ST 2025

MILFORD- On Monday March 31st, 2025, at approximately 3:25PM the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received a call reporting 3 males and 1 female involving a firearm.  As Milford Police Patrol Officers arrived on scene the suspects fled into a nearby residence.  During their investigation, Milford Police Detectives and Patrol Officers discovered a Walther PPQ 9MM firearm and a high capacity 9MM magazine, containing 9MM full metal jacket ammo.

As a result, Kevin Batista, 18, of Milford, MA was placed under arrest and transported to Milford Police Department Headquarters for booking.

“I’m proud of the men and women of the Milford Police Department for taking another illegal firearm off the streets of our community.  Illegally possessed weapons like this are capable of carelessly causing serious injury or death in an instant.” -Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino.

Batista was held on $7500 bail and transported for holding at Worcester House of Corrections pending arraignment.  He is charged with the following.

JOINT OPERATION WITH ICE AND HSI LEADS TO MURDER SUSPECT ARREST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WEDNESDAY MARCH 26TH 2025

MILFORD- On Tuesday March 18, 2025, In a joint operation with HSI and ICE, The Milford Police Department apprehended Marcio De Souza E Silva, 46, of Milford.  De Souza E Silva is suspected of a series of crimes in his native country of Brazil including trafficking illicit items such as firearms and suspicion of murder.

11 years ago, Desouza E Silva, known as “Carioca” was profiled on Brazilian TV for gang activity and his role in trafficking assault rifles in vehicles with false bottoms and hidden in mattresses through Brazilian shipping ports.  In the investigative report by RecordTV, Desouza E Silva’s criminal involvement as well as his criminal compound are profiled.

It is believed Desouza E Silva began living in Milford in 2022 but his time in the United States is uncertain.

At approximately 12:35PM De Souza E Silva was taken into custody without incident at his residence on Grove St. in Milford by ICE/HSI and members of the Milford Police Department.

“This Brazilian alien attempted to flee justice in his native country by hiding out in Massachusetts,” said ICE Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “Thanks to the hard work and collaboration of ICE Boston and the Milford Police Department, the Brazilian alien will be forced to face the law he attempted to subvert. Partnerships like those we share with the Milford Police help enable ICE to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our New England communities.”

De Souza E Silva was taken to Milford Police Headquarters before being transported to ICE facilities for deportation processing.

“This is the evil that has lived among us.  No matter which side of the aisle you stand on, we can all rest knowing that a criminal of this nature is removed from our community and our country.  I want to personally thank our federal agents for assisting us in making Milford a safer place to live.” – Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino

MILFORD POLICE INVESTIGATING PEDESTRIAN ENTRAPMENT ON GROVE ST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY MARCH 25TH 2025

MILFORD- On Tuesday March 25, 2025, AT 9:32am.  The Milford Public Safety Communications Center was notified by a detail officer that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and had become entrapped between the moving vehicle and a parked National Grid Utility Truck.

First responders from the Milford Police and Fire Departments as well as Community EMS quickly responded to join the officers on scene to render aid to a 71-year-old-male with chest trauma and internal injuries.

As a result of the incident, portions of Grove St. remain closed while CEMLEC Accident Recon investigates the incident.  The victim was transported via Life Flight to UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
